Crossing the Delaware — Guillo Perez III

Original • Oil on Stretched Canvas • Stretched & unframed

“Art is a bridge between the past and the present. In my reinterpretation of Emanuel Leutze’s ‘Washington Crossing the Delaware,’ I wanted to honor the power and symbolism of the original while presenting it through my contemporary lens. Using bold brushwork, vibrant colors, and layered textures, I sought to capture the spirit of resilience, courage, and the unstoppable drive for freedom that defined this moment in history. This piece is my dialogue with the past, told in the visual language of today.”
— Guillo Pérez III

Guillo Perez III offers a bold, expressionist reinterpretation of Emanuel Leutze’s iconic scene. Crossing the Delaware channels motion, tension, and resolve through dynamic brushstrokes and a vibrant, contemporary palette. Where the original fixed a historic moment, Guillo’s version translates its energy into color, texture, and immediacy—turning history into a present, living image.

Perfect for collectors, history enthusiasts, and lovers of contemporary expression, this one-of-a-kind painting bridges narrative and abstraction. It invites close looking and rewards rooms with both emotional depth and visual drama.

About the Artist — Guillo Pérez III

Guillo Pérez III is a Dominican–American painter whose work merges the strength of his Caribbean heritage with the edge of his New York upbringing. As the grandson of the celebrated master Guillo Pérez, he carries a powerful artistic lineage —yet his voice is unmistakably his own.

Working from Tampa, Guillo developed his signature philosophy, Bauhaus Budō, blending Bauhaus structure with the discipline of martial arts. His paintings pulse with geometry, myth, color, and movement.

His work has been exhibited across the U.S. and the Caribbean, and he has helped build creative communities in Miami, New York, and Tampa. The New York Times recognized him as a “Star Maker.”
