Acuario I takes its name from the idea of a contained, observed world, water held in a frame rather than stretching out toward an unseen horizon. Willy Pérez has spent a career studying waters and the fish that live in them well beyond any single coastline, and much of that work opens onto the vastness of open water. This piece turns inward instead, a single ecosystem studied closely rather than a wide sea taken in at a glance.
That shift in framing is the real subject here, not just the water itself, but the act of looking closely at something small enough to hold in view all at once. The painting rewards the kind of attention you'd bring to an actual aquarium, patient, close, curious about what moves within a fixed boundary.

About the Artist
Willy Pérez is a Dominican painter and clinical psychologist, and the eldest son of Maestro Guillo Pérez. He grew up inside his father's workshop, cleaning brushes and stretching canvases long before he held one of his own, and that early proximity shaped a discipline that has carried through his entire practice.
Where his father worked as a conceptist, building from idea outward, Willy works as an organic painter, led by gesture and feeling. His subjects range from the waters and marine life he has studied throughout his career, well beyond any single coastline, to the geometry of the landscapes around him, painted with a naturalist's attention and an expressionist's color.
He has presented forty-two solo exhibitions across the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Spain, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Panama, and major U.S. art centers including Miami, New York, and Providence. He is a member of the Dominican School of Artists (CODAP) and directs the Guillo Pérez School of Art, founded by his father in 1984.
