Original bronze sculpture by Ailene Fields · Whimsical nature study · Available at Marcolina's Fine Arts Gallery, Tampa, Florida · Ships worldwide
Here Fields moves from fairy tale into straightforward nature observation, a frog settled on a log with nothing symbolic layered on top of it. The pose is relaxed, legs tucked, head lifted just slightly, the kind of moment you'd catch at the edge of a pond and then lose again.
At 13 by 7 by 7 inches, it is the largest of the frog pieces and reads more as a small sculptural scene than a single figure, since the log itself is part of the composition rather than a separate base.

Collector's Note
Of the two frog pieces in this group, this one leans toward whimsy and nature rather than narrative, and pairs well with Frog Prince for a collector building out a small menagerie.

"My aim, sculpturally, has always been to bring softness out of apparent hardness."
Ailene Fields
About the Artist
Ailene Fields is an American sculptor working in bronze, stone, and acrylic, known for figures that draw on mythology, fairy tales, and the natural world. Born in Brooklyn, she earned a degree in English Literature and Greek Mythology from Lehman College before training as a self-taught potter.
She went on to study the human figure under master sculptor Bruno Lucchesi at the New School for Social Research in New York, where she developed the technical foundation behind her animal and figurative bronzes. She is a co-founder of the Skylands Museum of Art in Lafayette, New Jersey, and co-owner of The Compleat Sculptor in New York City.
Her work has been shown in solo museum exhibitions at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science and the Appleton Museum of Art, and is held in private collections across the country. Fields continues to teach stone carving, passing on the discipline behind her own decades of practice.
