Original mixed media painting by Greg Latch · Painter and mixed media artist · Available at Marcolina’s Fine Arts Gallery, Tampa, Florida · Ships worldwide
Nothing in Road Runner and Coyote sits still. The whole painting is cut into sharp, leaning planes of pink, red, orange, olive, yellow, and white, each one outlined in thick black, and everything seems to be tilting forward at once. On the left a large round eye, ringed in white and black, stares out from a pink and red shape with an orange point beneath it. To the right a second head, striped in blue and white with a long narrow snout, comes in from the other side. Between them, bands of yellow and olive stripe across the middle like a road disappearing under their feet.
You can find the two characters from the title if you want to. One is all eye and one is all nose, and one is clearly ahead of the other, but the painting never lets you see who is winning. The picture is not a cartoon. It is the feeling of the chase, the pull of one thing running and another thing right behind it, broken into pieces and thrown at you at full speed.
The surface is rough and scraped, with thick black lines pushed into the paint, and patches of blue sky show in the upper left and lower left corners. A strip of burnt orange runs along the bottom like hot ground. Greg signed it in the lower right.

Collector’s Note
This is a strong piece for a room that could use some energy, such as a studio, a game room, an office, or a living room with a lot of white wall. The color is loud, but the black linework keeps it organized, so it looks good with simple furniture. The surface is thick and scraped, and the planes catch light differently across the day, so a virtual viewing or a visit in person will show more than a photograph.

About the Artist
Greg Latch was born in Mississippi and studied acting and fine art at the University of Mississippi. He later worked as a portrait artist in Jackson Square in New Orleans, and in Tampa he spent years as a nurse in the city’s jails and a psychiatric hospital. He did not come to painting through galleries or art school. He came to it by watching people, and it shows.
For thirteen years he painted at Artist Unlimited alongside artists with master’s degrees from around the world, learned from master painter Ray Paul, and taught drawing with live models. He builds his surfaces with oils, markers, and a range of knives, layering until the canvas turns almost sculptural, and he works from spontaneous drawings and mismatched imagery.
His work sits between portraiture and abstraction, and he says himself that it is not really about the image. He was featured in the Persona exhibition at Marcolina’s Fine Arts Gallery alongside Blake Emory, Guillo Pérez 3, and Mark Rendini. He lives and works in Tampa, Florida.
