Original bronze sculpture by Ailene Fields · Animal study · Available at Marcolina's Fine Arts Gallery, Tampa, Florida · Ships worldwide

This camel sits with its legs folded fully beneath it, gaze held level and forward. Fields keeps the pose simple, no dramatic turn of the head or exaggerated posture, just a creature at rest between one journey and the next.

At 4 by 3.5 by 2 inches, it is one of the smaller pieces in the collection, sized for a desk or a shelf rather than a statement placement, and its quiet scale suits the quiet subject.

Collector's Note

Seated Camel I is more compact and upright than its companion piece, Seated Camel II. Collectors interested in the pair should compare the two directly, since the difference in posture is subtle but real.

"My aim, sculpturally, has always been to bring softness out of apparent hardness."

Ailene Fields

About the Artist

Ailene Fields is an American sculptor working in bronze, stone, and acrylic, known for figures that draw on mythology, fairy tales, and the natural world. Born in Brooklyn, she earned a degree in English Literature and Greek Mythology from Lehman College before training as a self-taught potter.

She went on to study the human figure under master sculptor Bruno Lucchesi at the New School for Social Research in New York, where she developed the technical foundation behind her animal and figurative bronzes. She is a co-founder of the Skylands Museum of Art in Lafayette, New Jersey, and co-owner of The Compleat Sculptor in New York City.

Her work has been shown in solo museum exhibitions at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science and the Appleton Museum of Art, and is held in private collections across the country. Fields continues to teach stone carving, passing on the discipline behind her own decades of practice.
